Society for Marine Mammalogy’s Guide to Giving

The Society for Marine Mammalogy (SMM) Conservation Fund and the SMM as a whole welcomes your contributions to our work. Here we provide some guidance that may help in planning your future giving.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact the SMM Treasurer to discuss your interest. It will be important for you to specify whether you want your donation to go to the SMM Conservation Fund, the SMM General Fund, or a specific award or scholarship fund within the SMM General Fund. If you are planning to make a legacy donation (a donation made after you die) to the SMM, please let the SMM Treasurer know so that funds can be transferred easily and so that we will know how you want those funds to be spent. The Society of Marine Mammalogy will work to ensure your funds are put to good use. Rules for this type of giving vary by country, but options are likely to include designated beneficiaries, wills, and trusts.

If you live and pay taxes in the United States, you may be able to receive substantial tax benefits from your contribution.
