The mission of the international Society for Marine Mammalogy (SMM) is to promote the global advancement of marine mammal science and contribute to its relevance and impact in education, conservation and management. We serve our mission by supporting and advancing marine mammal science research and scientists around the world in every stage of their careers through a variety of programs and activities.

Marine Mammal Science Journal

Marine Mammal Science publishes significant new findings on marine mammals resulting from original research on their form and function, evolution, systematics, physiology, biochemistry, behavior, population biology, life history, genetics, ecology and conservation. Active SMM Members receive free full access to Marine Mammal Science Journal.

 

Taxonomy

The SMM Taxonomy Committee reviews and updates the official Society for Marine Mammalogy list of marine mammal species and subspecies.

SMM Conservation Fund

The Society for Marine Mammalogy (SMM) has established a Conservation Fund endowment to fund high-priority research on the world’s most endangered marine mammal species with the goal of catalyzing real conservation action.
