Kenai Peninsula College is accepting applications for a Term Assistant Professor of Biology at its Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, Alaska.
We are looking for a colleague who has a passion for working with students who would be those taking 300- and 400- level courses in our unique Semester by the Bay Program, as well as students just beginning their higher education studies in biology. Expected courses include: Marine Mammal Biology and lab, Advanced Skeletal Articulation, Marine Mammals of Alaska and lab, Internship in Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology and lab.
This position supports the University of Alaska bipartite mission which includes a 5-part workload with four parts teaching and one part university/community service. This position accommodates a schedule with options to teach day, evening, in-person, hybrid, and online classes. Many of the Semester by the Bay courses include experiential and field trip activities.
Professional interpersonal and communication skills are a must to thrive in an environment involving a variety of cultures, backgrounds and age levels. We prefer candidates with experience teaching biology courses, especially to a wide variety of student populations using innovative student-centered teaching practices, current teaching technologies, learning management systems (such as blackboard) and distance delivery methodology. Our preferred candidate will have significant graduate-level education in marine mammal biology, ideally in anatomy, ecology, or behavior, as well as interest supporting the health professions by teaching online A&P. You will be a productive member of a small faculty department, taking on diverse tasks such as mentoring students, planning field trips, and community service, including involvement in other professional and/or academic organizations.
Minimum Qualifications:
You will need a PhD in Biology or a related field from a regionally accredited university and completed by the employment start date in August of 2024.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. KPC will conduct the first set of interviews on zoom. Candidates moving to in-person interviews will participate in a question and answer session, provide a 15-minute presentation showcasing a biological sciences portfolio and a 15-minute teaching presentation pertaining to a 100- and 200- biological science-related topic typically delivered in a classroom.
