Immediate opening: Wild Dolphin Project is looking for a permanent 100 ton captain for its 62’ power catamaran R/V Stenella. We study dolphins in the Bahamas during summer months (8, 10 day trips) and work offshore in Florida occasionally in our off- season (October through April). The vessel carries 6 crew (captain, first mate, cook, research director and 2 graduate students/interns), and 6 passengers for our summer trips. Must enjoy live aboard work on the ocean for extensive time.
Start Date: Immediate, Spring 2025
Full Time: 40 hours/week during non-field, with compensation time given for summer field time and any weekends worked offseason due to field schedule.
Expectations: Captain should be available all field season (May through Sept) and be available nearby until the end of the hurricane season (late November) to secure boat as needed. Captain usually preps boat the day before field trips, and day after trips for needed maintenance (with first mate help). Since boat work off-season is primarily in Florida, flexibility in schedule can be accommodated with notice.
Benefits available. Salary 65-70k range
