SMM Conservation Fund

The Society for Marine Mammalogy (SMM) has established a Conservation Fund endowment. This endowment is being used to fund high-priority research on the world’s most endangered marine mammal species with the goal of catalyzing real conservation action. Current pledges total $628,000. We hope to build this fund to $5 million and fund proposals totaling $300-500,000 per two-year cycle.

Applications are normally accepted biennially during the month of July prior to a SMM Biennial Conference. Find out more here.

Due to our COVID-delayed schedule for our Biennial Conferences, we have decided to delay the next round of Conservation Grants until next year. Proposals will be accepted in July 2024. This delay will also (hopefully) allow our Conservation Fund to recover from some particularly poor market years.
